PeriData App Specification

System Requirements and Privileges

Operating system: Windows 7, 8, 10 and 11. With Windows 10, the 64 bit version is required.

Storage space: One examination needs only 1280 byte = 1.3 kByte.

Privileges: "normal user". Enhanced administrator privileges are only required for the first app start and the license registration.

Installation, Update, Downgrade

File name: PERIDATA-SETUP- <versionnumber>.EXE The installer is based on InnoSetup. Installation method is copying. Updates overwrite the existing program files. A downgrade is possible. The license key is preserved.

Network: PeriData for Windows has to be installed on ALL WORK STATIONS where it is intended to be used. In case of a Terminal Server Architecture, PeriData is installed only on the server and sometimes on those workstations which are connected to a perimeter. Installation with command line parameters

/SILENT no dialogs, only progress bar

/VERYSILENT no display

/DIR=<path> dedicated program folder

/NORESTART prevents a restart

/NOREGSERVER no registration of OCX modules (use only if they are already registrated)

Program directory

Chosen during setup. Standard directory is C:\program files\PeriData (strongly recommended)

Update: The former path is suggested in the setup

Cleanup: During the setup procedure, a search for multiple installation is performed. If several directories with PeriData program files are found, a message appears. The cleanup has to be done manually outside the setup procedure.

Call from the EMR software (Link Mode): The PeriData app is "Periwin.exe" and is located in the folder /Periwin below the installation directory. Therefore, the call is C:\program files\PeriData\Periwin\Periwin.exe

Environmental variable: "PeriDataProgDir" contains the complete path to Periwin.exe. The call %PeriDataProgDir%\Periwin.exe works always, even with an atypical program directory.

More directories

Standard import directory: C:\PeriDataExchange is created during setup. In this directory, the temporary raw data files are stored. The directory should allow full control for all users. This directory contains also important auxillary files and should not be deleted.

Atypical import directory: For the temporary raw data files an atypical directory can be used. This is configurated in the options (tab Perimeter). The standard directory is maintained !

Legacy: Some perimeter programs which are more than 20 years old, are still sending their data to the former import directory C:\windows\peridata. Because of hard coding, this cannot be changed. PeriData moves the files automatically to the import directory. A special setting is not necessary.

Data directory (file types *.phf): In principle, the data directory (like the file names) can be chosen freely. It is recommended that the user creates a special data folder. Recommended name is "/PeridataFiles". In the link mode, it should be located on the server, otherwise for speed issues on the perimeter workstation. The folder name is not stored in PeriData. When the EMR software calls PeriData, the directory name is a commandline parameter.

Program Start

Normal start: Double click on the desktop symbol or single click on the start menu symbol. The program window is empty. The user opens the database manually.

Explorer: Double click on a PeriData database file (*.PHF). PeriData will start and opens this database.

Batch file: The PeriData app has the name Periwin.exe. Therefore, the batch command is C:\program files\PeriData\Periwin\periwin.exe (if installed in the standard folder).

Commandline parameters for "Periwin.exe"

Commandline parameters have the priority to the settings in the options

/MODE:<> used by the EMR software to start PeriData in the Link mode

/CLIENT:<> /DATA:<> /FIRSTNAME:<> /NAME:<> /BORN:<> /GDT:<> /FILE:<> /ID::<>   Additional parameters used for the Link mode

/REGISTRATION  Immediately after start, the registration dialog is opened. To be used once in case of license registration problems.

"<file name>. PHF"  Opens the specified database file. The file name (with path) must be the first command line argument. In case of blanks, use quotation marks.

/SHOWNORMAL  Start with normal window size and last position

/SHOWMAXIMIZED  Start with maximized window

/SHOWMINIMIZED  Start with minimized window

/X: /Y: /DX: /DY:  Start with a defined window. Overrides the other window parameters

NOTE: Without parameters, the program window starts with the last window size (maximized or normal)

/RESET:  Resets the options to the default settings

/RECEIVERMODE:  Same effect like the option "Receivermode": App running in a receiver mode - raw data files are not imported

/READONLY  Same effect like the option "Viewing Mode" - Files cannot be changed. This switch works only with the LinkMode !

/CHANGEPAGE  Same effect like the option "Change Umlaut" - The special characters on the commandline are differently interpreted. Seldomly useful with the ONEPAT-mode

Demo Mode and Registration

After the first installation on a PC, PeriData starts in Demo Mode. This mode gives full functionallity without restrictions. It is only available for a limited time after the first installation. For continuous usage, you need a license key. Details abount license key registration by telephone.

Database files

Perimetric data are stored in files with the extension .PHF . Simultaneously, the associated sort file .PHD is created. If it is missing, it is rewritten. more about the structure of the PeriData database

New files are called NONAME<number>. PHF and are temporarily stored in the directory ..public\documents\PeriData or ..allusers\documents\PeriData, resp. until they are stored with a dedicated name and path.

Simultaneous access to the same database is possible. According to the first come, first serve principle, the user who opens the file at first gets write permission, all others read-only permission. To avoid that a "viewing workstation" (without perimeter connection) blocks a "perimeter workstation" , the option viewing mode can be set at all viewing workstations.
